Congratulate yourself if you have done something strange, extravagant and broken the monotony of a decorous age.

I prefer teaching to any other profession because I enjoy helping young people acquire knowledge of topics and skills that I have devoted many years to learning. I remember when, in an English class I taught, a shy and awkward student wrote a short story that he didn’t know was clever and hilarious. This humble young man experienced a very positive critique from his fellow students, which he wasn’t expecting. Being present for that experience was one of my most memorable teaching moments. I love doing creative writing projects with my students.
Originally, I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, but I have traveled to many places and can speak fluent French. Some of the places I’ve visited or lived in are Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, London and Alaska. Somaliland stands out as one of the most startlingly endearing places I’ve been. In my travels I've spent two years as a humanitarian aid communications officer and have worked with organizations such as UNICEF and the IRC.
