Visual Art - Faculty
Ms. Buckman has been a member of the Green Fields faculty since 1983 and has taught art to grades 1
through 12. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art education and graduated with high
distinction from Pennsylvania State University. While in Pennsylvania, she lived alone in a secluded
log cabin in the mountains, an experience that established her respect for the environment and an
understanding of the importance of reflection. She has remained a productive artist with several
paintings in both private and corporate collections. She’s also shown her work in a number of galleries.
Ms. Buckman combined her interest in education with her art when she illustrated the children's
book “Elena and the Coin,” published by Desert Archaeology. Awards for both students and teacher over
the years include RISD Annual Art Award, Kodak Medallion Award, Scholastic Arts Program Award and
the Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Arizona Alumni Association.
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action,.and
because there is only one of you in of all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never
exist through any other medium and will be lost. The world will not have it.” – Martha Graham
