Congratulate yourself if you have done something strange, extravagant and broken the monotony of a decorous age.

I feel so at ease talking about subjects I'm passionate about with young people. After years of studying writing, literature, and social studies, it's meaningful to be able to share information with eager minds, and be challenged to make other minds eager. I've taught and tutored young people ranging from fourth grade to undergraduate, and they have inspired me to love the material more. Working with young people all day is a thrill -- they are funny, candid, and their reactions provide a refreshingly new perspective. Originally, I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area, but I have traveled to many places and can speak fluent French. Some of the places I’ve visited or lived in are Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, London and Alaska. In my travels I've been a foreign correspondent, and spent two years as a humanitarian aid communications officer, working with organizations such as UNICEF and the IRC. My undergraduate degree is from UCLA.
