Head of School
Dr. Marcus Calhoun-Lopez serves as Interim Head of School at Green Fields, where he also teaches and coaches Science Olympiad. He earned a Ph.D. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics from Iowa State University and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Chicago, with additional background in physics and computer science. Before joining Green Fields, formerly Accelerated Learning Laboratory, in 2009, Dr. Calhoun-Lopez taught mathematics at the University of Maryland and conducted research at Sandia National Laboratories, the University of Maryland, the University of New Mexico, and the Air Force Research Laboratory. Coming from a family of educators, he values the lasting impact teachers can have on students. He enjoys helping students see mathematics, science, and technology as connected, creative fields and supporting them as they develop confidence, independence, and curiosity.
